Paystack Storefront vs a full online store: which do you need?

Paystack Storefront is enough if you want a simple page that lists a few products and takes payment with Paystack. You need a full online store when you want to sell in a structured way: sales pages, delivery of files, bookings, follow-up emails and more. They are different tools. Paystack is a payment company, and a store builder sits on top.

Checked on 4 November 2026 on Paystack's Storefront page, its Storefront setup guide and its Ghana charges article. Paystack updates its dashboard often, so check the latest.

What Paystack Storefront does

From Paystack's support docs:

  • You create a Storefront from your Paystack dashboard with a name, a currency and a store link.
  • You add products with a name, price, quantity and an optional description.
  • You can change colours and branding, and share a direct link with customers.
  • It starts in test mode, and you publish it to live mode when ready.
  • You can create more than one Storefront, in different currencies.
  • It is free to use, with no setup or subscription fee. Paystack takes its normal transaction fee on each successful sale.
  • Paystack lists it for merchants in South Africa, Ghana and Nigeria.

For a seller who already has a Paystack account and a handful of products, that is a quick way to get a payment link online. Paystack's payments are well known and widely trusted.

What Paystack charges in Ghana

Paystack's article lists 1.95% for local transactions in Ghana, the same for cards, mobile money and bank transfer, with no cap shown for Ghana. Paystack's pricing page also lists transfers out at GH₵ 1 to a mobile money wallet and GH₵ 8 to a bank account, with next working day settlement. Fees may be quoted before VAT, so confirm for your account.

So on a GH₵ 100 sale, the Paystack fee is GH₵ 1.95.

What it may not cover

The setup docs we read describe products, prices, quantities, branding and a share link. They don't mention funnels, order bumps, delivery of digital files, courses, bookings, cash on delivery, email follow-ups or abandoned cart reminders. That doesn't prove Paystack lacks them, because we only read the setup guide. Check Paystack's current docs if any of these matter to you.

A full online store usually adds these. Paylead, for example, includes:

  • Sales pages and funnels, with order bumps and upsells.
  • Digital delivery: files by email straight after payment.
  • Courses, webinars, bookings and subscriptions.
  • Pay on delivery for physical products.
  • Email, SMS and cart reminders to follow up with customers.

Cost example

You sell 100 items at GH₵ 100 in a month, GH₵ 10,000 in total.

Paystack Storefront Paylead Starter
Fee 1.95% = GH₵ 195 4% + GH₵ 1 per sale = GH₵ 500
Includes Payment processing and a simple store Processing, store, funnels, delivery, email follow-ups
You keep About GH₵ 9,805 GH₵ 9,500

Storefront is cheaper on pure fees, and we are happy to say so. The question is what the extra GH₵ 305 buys you. If you would otherwise pay for a separate email tool, a course platform or a booking app, a store with those built in can cost less overall. If you only need a payment page, it won't. Paylead also lets you pass the fee to the buyer, so you keep 100% of the price. Withdrawals on Paylead are GH₵ 5 each.

Paylead and Paystack

Some Paylead checkouts run on Paystack, so the two work side by side. Buyers on Paylead pay with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money, Visa or Mastercard.

Who each one suits

Paystack Storefront suits you if you already use Paystack, sell a small list of simple products, and want the lowest card and MoMo fee with the least setup.

A full store suits you if you sell digital products or courses, take bookings, sell physical items with pay on delivery, or want to follow up with buyers and recover lost carts.
