Gumroad is a simple place to sell digital products, with no monthly fee, but it charges 10% + $0.50 on direct sales and 30% on sales that come through Discover. It makes most sense if your buyers are abroad and pay by card. If your buyers are in Ghana and pay by MoMo, a local platform such as Paylead or Selar usually fits better.
Gumroad's fees were checked on gumroad.com/pricing on 4 November 2026. We could not read Gumroad's payout country table today, so payout details below are marked where unconfirmed.
What Gumroad does well
- Easy to start. No monthly fee, and you can list a product quickly.
- Good for digital products. Ebooks, templates, courses, software and memberships.
- Built for international buyers. If your audience is in the US or Europe, it is a familiar checkout.
- A Discover marketplace that can bring new buyers, though at a higher fee.
Gumroad fees
According to its pricing page:
- 10% + $0.50 per transaction on direct sales, meaning sales through your profile or direct links.
- 30% per transaction when a new customer finds and buys your product through Discover.
- No monthly charges.
Example: a $10 ebook sold through your link costs $1 + $0.50 = $1.50, which is 15% of the sale. A $50 course costs $5.50, or 11%. The flat 50 cents hurts most on small prices. For the full breakdown, read Gumroad fees for Ghanaian sellers.
Getting paid in Ghana
Gumroad's help centre says it pays by direct bank deposit in local currency in most countries and uses PayPal where bank deposits are not offered. We could not read the country table, so we cannot confirm today whether Ghana gets bank payouts or PayPal only. Our earlier post found a help page listing Ghana among bank payout countries. Gumroad's pages also give different minimum balances, so check the payout settings inside your own account before you build a plan around it.
Gumroad's pricing page does not say how long payouts take or what payout fees apply. Check that too.
What Ghanaian buyers can pay with
We could not confirm from Gumroad's pages whether buyers in Ghana can pay with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash or AirtelTigo Money, and its pricing page does not mention mobile money. Test a checkout from a Ghanaian phone, or ask Gumroad support. If your buyers rely on MoMo, a lost checkout is a lost sale. See how to accept mobile money payments online in Ghana.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| No monthly fee | 10% + $0.50 is high on cheap products |
| Simple setup | 30% on Discover sales |
| Familiar to buyers abroad | Dollar pricing and dollar payouts |
| Good for digital products | Mobile money and Ghana payout details not confirmed on its pages |
Gumroad vs Paylead: a cost example
Ten sales of GH₵ 100 on Paylead cost 4% + GH₵ 1 each, which is GH₵ 5 per sale, or GH₵ 50 in total, with MoMo and card processing included. Withdrawals are GH₵ 5, from GH₵ 50, paid the next working day. Cards work at checkout on Paylead. If you sell to buyers abroad, check with your bank about foreign cards before relying on it.
A Gumroad sale of the same size would carry the 10% plus 50 cents, converted at the day's dollar rate, so it will be a higher share on a GH₵ 100 product.
When Gumroad still makes sense
- Your buyers are mostly in the US or Europe and pay by card.
- You sell in dollars to an international audience.
- You want Discover to find buyers, and you accept the 30%.
When to choose something else
- Your buyers are in Ghana and pay by MoMo.
- You sell low-priced items where 50 cents hurts.
- You want cedi pricing and cedi payouts. See Gumroad alternatives for African creators and Selar vs Gumroad.

How to test Gumroad before you commit
Gumroad has no monthly fee, so testing is cheap. List one low-priced product, then check three things. Open the checkout from a Ghanaian phone and see which payment methods appear. Look at your payout settings to see what Gumroad offers for Ghana. Then make one small purchase yourself and note the fees taken and when the money becomes available.
Ten minutes of testing tells you more than any review, including this one. If the checkout does not show a method your buyers use, you have your answer.
