The cheapest way to accept MoMo payments online in Ghana (fee table)

The cheapest way to accept MoMo online is a raw payment gateway: Paystack lists 1.95% and Flutterwave 2%. But a gateway needs a website or developer. Paylead costs more, at 4% + GH₵ 1 per sale, because it includes the store, checkout, delivery and follow-ups.

Fees below were checked on each provider's own pricing or help page on 4 November 2026, except Selar and Paylead, checked 29 October 2026. Fees change, so confirm before you build on them.

The fee table

Provider Fee on MoMo GH₵ 100 sale GH₵ 1,000 sale Payout to MoMo
Paystack Ghana 1.95% GH₵ 1.95 GH₵ 19.50 GH₵ 1 per transfer
Flutterwave Ghana 2% (excl. VAT) GH₵ 2.00 GH₵ 20.00 1.5% per transfer
Selar 5% + GH₵ 1 GH₵ 6 GH₵ 51 GH₵ 15 per withdrawal
Paylead 4% + GH₵ 1 GH₵ 5 GH₵ 41 GH₵ 5 per withdrawal

The maths:

  • Paystack: 100 × 1.95% = GH₵ 1.95. 1,000 × 1.95% = GH₵ 19.50. Paystack's Ghana page lists 1.95% for cards, mobile money and bank transfer, with no flat fee.
  • Flutterwave: 100 × 2% = GH₵ 2. 1,000 × 2% = GH₵ 20. Its page lists 2.6% for local cards and says prices exclude VAT and other local taxes. Customers bear charges by default, and you can change that in the dashboard.
  • Selar: 5% of 100 = GH₵ 5, plus GH₵ 1 = GH₵ 6. 5% of 1,000 = GH₵ 50, plus GH₵ 1 = GH₵ 51.
  • Paylead: 4% of 100 = GH₵ 4, plus GH₵ 1 = GH₵ 5. 4% of 1,000 = GH₵ 40, plus GH₵ 1 = GH₵ 41. Processing is included.

Hubtel and ExpressPay

We could not find a fee for MoMo collections on the Hubtel or ExpressPay pages we could open. Third-party blogs quote different numbers, so we have left them out of the table. Ask each provider for its current rate, or see our guide to mobile money payment gateways in Ghana.

Why the gateway is cheaper, and what it leaves out

Paystack and Flutterwave move the money. You still need to build or install everything around it:

  • a website or app to show products and call the gateway
  • a developer or plugin to connect it
  • business documents for approval (requirements vary, so check with each provider)
  • delivery of files, order tracking, receipts and follow-up messages

If you already have a website and someone to maintain it, a gateway is the cheapest route. The difference on GH₵ 1,000 is about GH₵ 21 against Paystack (GH₵ 41 minus GH₵ 19.50).

What the extra fee on Paylead buys

Paylead charges 4% + GH₵ 1 per online sale on every plan, including free. That covers:

  • a store and sales pages, with checkout
  • MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money, Visa and Mastercard
  • digital products delivered by email straight after payment
  • email and SMS follow-ups to customers

No developer is needed, and you can start on the free Starter plan (1 live funnel, 150 contacts). Withdrawals cost GH₵ 5 each, from GH₵ 50, paid the next working day. You can also pass the fee to the buyer and keep your full price.

Paylead is for sellers in Ghana only today.

The "free but manual" option: MoMo transfer

Asking buyers to send money to your personal or merchant MoMo number costs little or nothing to receive, depending on network and wallet type. The real cost is time. You check each payment, match names to orders and watch for fake screenshots. It works for a few sales a week. Our guide to mobile money charges for sellers in Ghana explains what you pay on each route.
