Hubtel online store review (2026)

Hubtel is a large Ghanaian payments and commerce company. It offers a free webstore for businesses and takes MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AT Money, cards and more. It is aimed at businesses that want full control over their money, not at the cheapest fee. Hubtel's public pages don't list store fees clearly, so check them with Hubtel directly.

Checked on 4 November 2026 on hubtel.com, Hubtel's webstore post and its developer docs. The webstore post carries no visible date, and Hubtel's site gives few fee details, so several points below are unconfirmed.

What Hubtel offers

  • A webstore. Hubtel's post is titled "Hubtel Webstore - Free For All Hubtel Customers." Hubtel's materials describe it as free, and say customers can place orders and pay on it. Summaries of the post say you need a Hubtel account with verified business information.
  • Business collections. Hubtel's site lists MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AT Money, alongside bank, cash, POS and card options.
  • A stores area for retail partners, with a "Sell on Hubtel" link.
  • A developer API for taking payments, listing MTN, Vodafone, AirtelTigo, Mastercard and Visa.

What we could not confirm

  • Fees. Hubtel's home page lists no prices. Its developer docs say that by default fees are charged to the business, and that you can pass them to the customer. Third-party sites quote a figure, but we won't repeat an unofficial number. Ask Hubtel for a quote.
  • Store features. The pages we read don't describe store features such as product types, discounts, funnels or digital delivery. Ask Hubtel what the webstore includes today.
  • Plan prices. None were visible.

Who Hubtel suits

Hubtel's home page says it is for scale-ready businesses that want visibility and control over their money, and it says it isn't aimed at businesses that only want mobile money collection or the cheapest fee. That fits a shop with several payment channels, cash or POS sales, and a team.

It is a strong fit if you:

  • run a physical shop and want online sales next to POS.
  • already use Hubtel for bills, food or retail.
  • want a large, established Ghanaian provider.

Where a store builder fits better

If you are a solo seller, a creator or a small shop selling mainly through WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok links, you may want a tool designed around selling: sales pages, order bumps, email follow-ups, file delivery, bookings and cart reminders. Paylead is built for that, and charges one clear fee.

Hubtel Paylead
Store Free webstore (details to confirm) Store, funnels and payment links on every plan
Buyer pays with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AT Money, cards MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money, Visa, Mastercard

Pass fee to buyer Possible per developer docs Yes, at checkout
POS Listed as a channel Not part of Paylead's features
Pay on delivery Cash and POS options listed Yes, 2% + GH₵ 1
Withdrawals Ask Hubtel GH₵ 5, from GH₵ 50, next working day

Cost example for Paylead

A seller moves 80 orders of GH₵ 150 in a month, GH₵ 12,000 in total.

  • Fee per sale: 4% of GH₵ 150 = GH₵ 6, plus GH₵ 1 = GH₵ 7.
  • 80 sales x GH₵ 7 = GH₵ 560.
  • You keep GH₵ 11,440, before any withdrawal fees.
  • If the buyer covers the fee at checkout, you keep the full price.

We can't put Hubtel next to these numbers because it doesn't publish a rate we could confirm. Get a written quote and run the same sum. For mobile money costs more broadly, see mobile money charges for sellers in Ghana.

What to ask Hubtel before you sign up

Because the public pages are thin, send Hubtel a short list of questions and keep the answers in writing:

  • What percentage do you charge on MoMo and on cards, and is VAT extra?
  • Who pays the fee by default, and how do I pass it to the buyer?
  • How long until money reaches my account, and what do withdrawals cost?
  • Does the webstore support the product types I sell, such as digital files, bookings or physical items with delivery?
  • Is there a monthly charge for any extra feature?

How to decide

  1. List how you take orders: shop counter, WhatsApp, a link in your bio, a website.
  2. Ask Hubtel for its webstore fees and features in writing.
  3. Try Paylead's free plan with the same products.
  4. Compare the total cost and the time you spend on each.
