Sales funnel vs online store: which one sells more?

An online store is best when people come to browse many products, and a sales funnel is best when you want to sell one offer to people who arrive from an ad, a post or a launch. Funnels often convert better because they remove choices: one page, one offer, one button, plus an add-on at checkout and an upsell after. Most growing sellers use both: a store for regulars and browsing, funnels for campaigns and new products.

The difference

Online store Sales funnel
Shows All your products One offer
Visitor Browsing, comparing Came for something specific
Goal Let people find what they want Get one decision
Distractions Menus, other products None
Raising order value Related products Order bump at checkout, upsell after payment
Best for Repeat customers, wide catalogues Ads, launches, single products, lead generation

Why funnels often sell more for one product

  • Fewer choices. Too many options make people delay.
  • The page tells a story (problem, solution, proof, offer) instead of listing a photo and price.
  • Checkout is on the page.
  • Built-in add-ons: a bump at checkout and an upsell after can raise the average order without more traffic.
  • Easier to match an ad. The ad and the page say the same thing.

When a store wins

  • Fashion, beauty, gadgets and groceries, where people want to browse.
  • Returning customers who know what they want.
  • Many products at similar prices, none of them a "hero".
  • SEO: individual product pages can rank on Google.

How to use both

  1. Store as your home base: every product, link in bio, regulars.
  2. A funnel per campaign: your best seller, a new launch, a seasonal promo, a free lead magnet.
  3. Ads go to funnels, not the store homepage.
  4. Funnels link to the store on the thank-you page ("See everything we sell").

On Paylead, your store and your funnels share the same products, checkout and wallet. Funnel templates include Spotlight for one product and Shopfront for physical products with pay on delivery. See how to build your first sales funnel.

Example: a skincare brand

  • Store: 25 products, used by returning buyers from WhatsApp and Instagram.
  • Funnel 1: "Clear skin starter kit", GH₵ 280, for TikTok ads, with a GH₵ 60 sunscreen bump.
  • Funnel 2: free "Which routine suits your skin?" quiz that recommends a kit.
