To build your first sales funnel, pick one goal (a sale, a lead or a booking), one offer and one kind of buyer. Then build the few pages that walk that buyer to the goal: a page that makes the offer, a checkout or signup, a thank-you page with a next step, and follow-up messages for people who didn't finish. Start simple. A one-page funnel that gets sales beats a ten-step funnel that never launches.
If you're not sure what a funnel is, read what is a sales funnel? first.
Step 1: Choose one goal
Every funnel does one job. Pick it:
| Goal | Good for | First page |
|---|---|---|
| Sell a product now | Ebooks, courses, physical products under ~GH₵ 500 | Sales page with checkout |
| Collect leads | Building a list to sell to later | Free guide or quiz in exchange for contact |
| Book calls | Coaching, consulting, services over ~GH₵ 1,000 | Application form, then calendar |
| Fill a webinar | Teaching first, selling at the end | Webinar registration page |
A funnel that tries to do all four does none of them well.
Step 2: Know who it's for
Write one sentence: "This funnel is for ___ who want ___ but struggle with ___."
"This is for Ghanaian nurses who want to work in the UK but don't know where to start with the NMC process."
Every word on your pages should speak to that person. If you can't write the sentence, read how to define your ideal customer.
Step 3: Make the offer clear
Before designing anything, write down:
- What they get: the product, plus bonuses.
- The result it brings: in their words.
- The price, and why it's worth it.
- Why buy now: a launch price, limited spots, a bonus that ends.
A strong offer does more for sales than any design. See how to make an offer people can't refuse.
Step 4: Build the pages
The main page
For a sales funnel, this is your sales page: headline, the problem, the solution, what's inside, proof, price, FAQs and a buy button. See how to write a sales page that sells.
On Paylead, start from a funnel template:
- Spotlight for selling one product,
- Magnet for a free guide that leads to an offer,
- Live Room for a webinar,
- Shopfront for physical products with pay on delivery,
- Cohort for a course launch,
- Strategy Call for a coaching application.
Or describe your offer and let AI build the first draft. Use a funnel template.
The checkout
Keep it short: name, phone or email, and payment by MoMo or card on the same page. Every extra field loses buyers.
The order bump (optional, but worth it)
A small add-on at checkout ("Add the workbook for GH₵ 40") raises what each buyer spends. See order bumps and upsells, explained.
The thank-you page
Don't waste it. Tell them what happens next (check your email, join the group, book your call) and, if it fits, offer the next step: an upsell or an invitation.
Step 5: Set up the follow-ups
Most people won't buy on the first visit. Follow-ups bring them back:
- Cart reminders for people who started checkout and left: how to recover abandoned carts.
- A welcome sequence for people who took your free guide: the 5 email sequences every seller needs.
- After the sale: a thank-you, help getting started, then the next product.
On Paylead, email automations start when someone orders, signs up through a form or leaves a cart, then wait and send emails on their own.
Step 6: Send people to it
A funnel with no traffic is a page nobody sees. Start with what's free: WhatsApp status, your social accounts, groups and your email list. Add ads once you've made a few sales. See how to run Facebook and Instagram ads in Ghana.
Step 7: Measure and improve
Watch three numbers:
| Number | What it tells you | If it's low |
|---|---|---|
| Visitors → checkout started | Is the page convincing? | Rewrite the headline, add proof |
| Checkout started → paid | Is paying easy? | Shorter checkout, cart reminders |
| Average order | Are bumps and upsells working? | Better add-on, clearer value |
Change one thing at a time. Paylead can A/B test your headline and keep the one that sells more.
A simple first funnel
Ama sells a GH₵ 150 "Start your bakery" ebook.
- Spotlight sales page, with a GH₵ 40 recipe-costing spreadsheet as an order bump.
- Thank-you page offering her GH₵ 600 video course at GH₵ 450 for 48 hours.
- Cart reminders on.
- An automation: three days after buying the ebook, an email about the course.
- Traffic from TikTok baking videos and her WhatsApp status.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a website to have a funnel?
No. A funnel is its own set of pages with its own link. On Paylead's free plan you can have one funnel live at a time.
How many steps should a funnel have?
As few as possible. Page, checkout, thank-you. Add steps only when you have a reason.
What's the difference between a funnel and an online store?
A store shows everything you sell. A funnel focuses one buyer on one offer. See single-product funnel vs online store.
