Landing page conversion checklist: 25 fixes that get more people to buy

To get more people to buy from your landing page, check it against the list below, starting with the first screen on a phone, because that's where most visitors decide to stay or leave. The most common problems are an unclear headline, no visible price or buy button, weak proof, a long checkout and no follow-up for people who don't buy straight away. Fix the biggest gaps first, then test one change at a time.

First screen (on a phone)

  1. ☐ The headline says the result, for whom. Not your brand name.
  2. ☐ A subheadline explains how or how fast.
  3. ☐ One image that shows the product or the result. No stock photos of laptops.
  4. ☐ The price is visible, or one tap away.
  5. ☐ A buy or signup button without scrolling.
  6. ☐ The page loads in a few seconds on mobile data. Compress images.

The message

  1. ☐ The problem is described in the buyer's own words.
  2. ☐ Benefits, not just features: "do it in 10 minutes", not "12 modules".
  3. ☐ What's inside is listed clearly.
  4. ☐ Who it's for and who it's not for.
  5. ☐ One page, one offer. No menu, no links to other products.

Trust

  1. ☐ Real reviews or results, with names and photos where possible.
  2. ☐ Who you are: a photo and a short story.
  3. ☐ Delivery is clear: how and when they get it ("Instant download by email", "Accra in 24 hours").
  4. ☐ Refund or returns policy in plain words.
  5. ☐ Contact details or a support channel.

The offer

  1. ☐ Value is clear before the price (what they get and what it's worth).
  2. ☐ A real reason to act now: a deadline, limited spots or a bonus that ends.
  3. ☐ FAQs answer the questions people DM you.

Checkout

  1. ☐ Payment on the page, by MoMo and card. No "DM for account number".
  2. ☐ Few fields: name, phone or email, delivery address only if it's physical.
  3. ☐ No surprise costs: delivery fees shown early.
  4. ☐ An order bump at checkout that fits the product.

After

  1. ☐ Cart reminders for people who leave checkout. See how to recover abandoned carts.
  2. ☐ A thank-you page with a next step: an upsell, a group to join or how to get started.

Tracking

Bonus: ☐ Your Meta and TikTok pixels report views, checkouts and purchases, so you can see which ads sell. See how to track sales from ads.

How Paylead covers the basics

Paylead funnels and product pages come with checkout on the page (MoMo and card), order bumps and upsells, cart reminders by email and SMS, pixels, and fast mobile pages. Product pages keep the price and buy button in view on phones. You can A/B test your headline and let it pick the winner.

How to improve without guessing

  1. Find the leak: visitors → checkout started → paid. Which step drops most? See why your online store isn't making sales.
  2. Fix the biggest gap from this list.
  3. Change one thing at a time and compare a week before and after, or run an A/B test.

Frequently asked questions

What's a good conversion rate for a landing page?

It depends on price, traffic and offer. Cold ad traffic converts much lower than your own WhatsApp contacts. Compare against your own past numbers and aim to improve them.

Should I remove the menu from my landing page?

On a page for one offer, yes. Every link away is a chance to leave.
