Driving schools in Ghana can take bookings online by listing lesson packages (single lesson, 10-lesson course, refresher, test preparation), letting learners pick open times from a booking link, and taking payment by mobile money, with the option to pay for a full course in parts. Online booking cuts missed lessons, fills empty slots and saves instructors hours of phone calls every week.
Driving lessons are a planned purchase. Students, new workers and people who just bought a car compare schools, and the one that makes booking easy often wins.
1. Build clear packages
| Package | Who it's for |
|---|---|
| Single lesson | Trying the school, or extra practice |
| Beginner course (for example 10 to 20 lessons) | Complete beginners |
| Refresher | People who can drive but are out of practice |
| Test preparation | Practice on the test route before the DVLA test |
| Automatic or manual | Price each if your cars differ |
| Corporate | Companies training drivers |
Say how long each lesson is, whether pickup is included, and what the course covers (road signs, parking, highway driving).
2. Set up online booking
On Paylead:
- Open a free store.
- Create a booking product for single lessons with the lesson length, your available days and hours, and buffer time between lessons.
- Set a minimum notice (for example, book at least 12 hours ahead) and how far ahead learners can book.
- Put your meeting point or pickup rules in the booking's location details.
Learners pick a time, pay and get a confirmation with a calendar file, so they remember the lesson.
3. Sell courses with payment plans
A full course is a big payment for many learners. Make it easier:
- Sell the course as a product paid in full, at a better price than single lessons.
- Or send an invoice the learner can pay in two or three parts. See how to accept part payments and installments.
Learners pay by MoMo or card. Paylead's fee is 4% + GH₵ 1 per online payment.
4. Stop no-shows
A missed lesson is a car, an instructor and fuel wasted.
- Take payment when they book, not at the lesson.
- Set a cancellation window, for example 12 or 24 hours.
- Let learners move a lesson once if they tell you early.
- Send reminders the day before.
5. Manage instructors
If you have more than one instructor or car:
- Create a booking product per instructor or per car so their calendars don't clash.
- Give instructors their own access to see bookings without sharing your password. See how to let staff manage orders without sharing your password.
- Track how many lessons each learner has left.
6. Get more learners
- Short videos with tips: parking, roundabouts, what examiners check. These get shared a lot.
- Campuses and national service groups, where allowed: student prices before long vacations.
- Car dealers: new car buyers often need lessons. Offer dealers a referral commission with an affiliate link.
- Companies that need trained drivers.
- Google Business Profile so people searching "driving school near me" find you, with reviews from past learners. See how to get customers with Google Business Profile.
- Pass stories: post learners who passed their test (with permission).
7. Keep learners happy
Give each learner a simple progress note after every few lessons: what they've mastered, what to practise next, and how many lessons you think they still need. Honest advice gets you referrals.
Frequently asked questions
Can learners book lessons without calling?
Yes. With a booking link, they see open times, pick one and pay. You only call them if something changes.
Should I offer pay after the lesson?
For regular learners you trust, maybe. For new learners, take payment at booking to avoid no-shows.
Do you help with the DVLA test itself?
That depends on your school. If you offer test booking or test-day support, list it as a separate package with its own price.
