How to take paid bookings on your own website (a Calendly with MoMo)

If you sell your time, as a coach, consultant, therapist, tutor, photographer, stylist or lawyer, you know the routine. Someone messages "are you free Thursday?", you reply, they go quiet, they come back on Saturday, the slot has gone, and when they finally book they don't show up.

A booking calendar on your website fixes all of it: clients see your free times, pick one, and pay before the booking is confirmed.

Why payment comes first

Free booking tools like Calendly are great at scheduling, but in Ghana the problem isn't the calendar. It's people who book and don't come. When a client has paid, even a deposit, they turn up.

Taking payment upfront also means:

  • No chasing. The money is in before the session.
  • Fewer reschedules. People think before they book a paid slot.
  • A cleaner day. You see who is coming and what they paid.

What a good booking setup needs

  • Your real hours, for example weekdays 9 to 5 and Saturday mornings.
  • Buffers between sessions so you're never running from one to the next.
  • Notice time, so nobody books you for 20 minutes from now.
  • A booking window, so people can't book six months ahead.
  • Mobile money and card, because most of your clients will pay by MoMo.
  • Deposits if a full fee upfront is too much for your clients.
  • A calendar invite and reminders, so they don't forget.

Set it up on Paylead

  1. Create a bookings product. In your dashboard click Create product and choose Bookings. Name the session, for example "1:1 strategy call, 60 minutes", and set the price.
  2. Set your availability. Add your hours for each day, the session length, buffers, how much notice you need and how far ahead people can book.
  3. Choose how clients pay: the full fee, a deposit, or in person.
  4. Put the calendar on your site. Open the product, click Embed, choose Booking calendar, pick your colour and copy the code. Paste it on your website: WordPress, Wix, Webflow, Squarespace or your own.

That's it. The full steps are in the help guide on adding a booking calendar to your website.

What your client sees

  1. Your session, its price and length, and a calendar with your free days.
  2. They pick a day, then a time. Times show in their own timezone, which matters if you coach people abroad.
  3. They tap Book now. The checkout opens over your page with that time already chosen.
  4. They pay with MoMo or card, and get a confirmation with a calendar invite.

While they pay, the time is held for them, so two people can't grab the same slot. If someone takes it first, they're asked to pick another.

No website? Use your booking link

Not everyone has a website, and you don't need one. Every bookings product has its own page with the same calendar. Put the link in your Instagram bio, your WhatsApp status and your email signature.

Tips for more bookings

Offer a short first session. A 20-minute intro at a low price is an easy yes, and many clients book the full session after.

Take a deposit for big sessions. A GH₵ 100 deposit on a GH₵ 500 session filters out people who aren't serious without scaring away the ones who are.

Say exactly what they get. "60 minutes on Zoom, a written plan after the call" sells better than "consultation".

Keep your hours honest. Only open the times you'll really keep. A cancelled paid booking costs more trust than a full calendar.

Frequently asked questions

Can clients pay a deposit instead of the full fee?

Yes. Choose a percentage or a fixed amount. The client pays it online and the rest in person.

Do clients get reminders?

Yes. They get a confirmation with a calendar invite, and reminders before the session.

Can clients reschedule or cancel?

Yes, from the link in their confirmation, as long as it's before the cancellation cut-off you set.

Does the booking calendar cost extra?

No. Embeds are free on every plan. Each booking is a normal sale: 4% + GH₵ 1, or pass the fee to your client.
