How to sell car parts and accessories online in Ghana

To sell car parts online in Ghana, list every part with the makes, models and years it fits, its part number and whether it's new, used ("home used") or a copy, then take orders through an online store with mobile money and offer delivery or pickup. Most returns in car parts come from the wrong fitment, so ask buyers for their car details before you send anything.

Abossey Okai and Suame Magazine are famous for a reason: Ghana runs on spare parts. But drivers and mechanics now search online first. A clear online store saves them a trip and gets you sales from across the country.

1. Choose a focus

  • One brand: Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Honda or Nissan parts. Specialists earn trust fastest.
  • Fast-moving parts: filters, brake pads, bulbs, wipers, belts, plugs.
  • Tyres and batteries: high demand, but heavy to deliver.
  • Accessories: seat covers, floor mats, dash cams, phone holders, car perfume.
  • Commercial vehicles: trotro, taxi and truck parts for fleet owners.

2. List parts the way buyers search

Every listing should include:

  • Part name and part number (OEM number if you have it)
  • Fits: make, model, years and engine size, for example "Toyota Corolla 2009–2013, 1.8L"
  • Condition: new, home used, or aftermarket copy, said honestly
  • Photos of the real part from several sides, including any markings
  • Warranty or return terms, if you give any

Put the make and model in the product name so it shows up when people search your store.

3. Check fitment before sending

Add a short step to every order: ask for the car's year, model and VIN or chassis number on WhatsApp, or a photo of the old part. Confirm it fits, then send. This one habit saves you most of your returns.

4. Set up your store

  1. Open a free Paylead store.
  2. Add each part as a physical product with fitment, part number and photos.
  3. Use options for sides (left/right, front/rear) or sizes, each with its own stock.
  4. Set your delivery fee, and offer pickup at your shop for heavy parts.
  5. Turn on pay on delivery for small parts and buyers you've confirmed.

Buyers pay with MoMo or card, and you get every order with their phone number, so you can call to confirm fitment. Fees on Paylead are 4% + GH₵ 1 per online sale and 2% + GH₵ 1 for pay on delivery.

5. Work with mechanics

Mechanics decide which parts many drivers buy.

  • Give mechanics an affiliate link so they earn a commission on every order they send.
  • Offer a trade price for mechanics who buy often.
  • Deliver straight to their workshop.

A handful of loyal mechanics can carry a parts business.

6. Sell kits, not single parts

Raise your average order with kits:

  • Service kit: oil filter, air filter, cabin filter and plugs for one model.
  • Brake kit: pads and discs for the front.
  • Road trip kit: bulbs, fuses, tyre gauge, first aid.

On Paylead, sell each kit as a bundle, and offer an extra (wiper blades, car perfume) as an order bump.

7. Deliver across Ghana

  • Within the city: dispatch riders for small parts, a tricycle or pickup for big ones.
  • Outside the city: bus station waybills or couriers. Send the buyer the waybill details. See how to manage deliveries with waybills.
  • Pack well: wrap glass and electronics, and seal oils and fluids.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sell used car parts online?

Yes. Say clearly that they're used, show real photos, and give a short testing period, for example 3 days, so buyers trust you.

How do I compete with Abossey Okai prices?

Compete on convenience and trust: correct fitment, fast delivery and honest condition. Many buyers will pay a little more to avoid a wasted trip.

Should I offer warranties?

A short warranty on new parts builds trust. Write it on every product page and keep it simple.
