To sell furniture online in Ghana, photograph each piece in a real room with its exact measurements, list ready-made items with a delivery price by area, take a deposit before you start any custom piece, and sell through an online store with mobile money so buyers can pay without coming to your workshop. Furniture is a big purchase, so trust and clear details matter more than anything.
Carpenters, upholsterers and furniture shops across Ghana are moving online because buyers now search Instagram and TikTok before they visit a showroom. Here's how to do it well.
1. Decide your model
- Ready-made pieces you keep in stock: sofas, beds, dining sets, TV stands.
- Made to order: the buyer picks a design, size and fabric, and you build it.
- Refurbished and second-hand furniture.
- Small items that are easier to deliver: side tables, stools, shelves, mirrors.
Many workshops do both: a few ready-made pieces to show the quality, and custom orders for most sales.
2. Show it properly
Furniture photos need to answer "will this fit in my room?"
- Photograph in a real room, not the workshop floor.
- Show front, side, back and a close-up of the joints, fabric and finish.
- Put measurements on the photo or right under it: width, depth, height, seat height.
- Film a short video of someone sitting, opening drawers or folding the table.
- Show the wood and fabric options as swatches.

3. Price clearly
Buyers leave when they have to DM for a price. Show it, or at least a "from" price.
For each piece, add materials, labour, finishing, transport and fees (on Paylead, 4% + GH₵ 1 per online payment). Then add your profit. See how to price physical products.
4. Take a deposit for custom pieces
Never start a custom sofa without money in hand. A common split:
- 50 to 70% deposit when the design and size are agreed. This covers materials.
- The balance before delivery, once the buyer has seen photos of the finished piece.
Send each part as a payment link, or send an invoice the buyer can pay in parts. See how to accept part payments. Write the agreed design, size, fabric, price and delivery date in the invoice, so nobody argues later.
5. Set up your store
- Open a free Paylead store with your logo and colours.
- Add ready-made pieces as physical products with photos, measurements and stock.
- Use options for size or fabric where the price changes.
- Add a "Custom order" product for the deposit, or send links per order.
- Set your delivery fee, or charge delivery separately by area.
6. Plan delivery
Furniture delivery is where many sellers lose money.
- Price delivery by area (for example, within Accra, Tema, Kasoa, outside Greater Accra) and say it before checkout.
- Measure doorways and stairs for big pieces. Ask the buyer for them before building.
- Use a truck or tricycle you trust, and send the driver's name and number.
- Assemble on site for beds and wardrobes, and include that in the price.

7. Get buyers
- Before-and-after videos of upholstery and restoration do very well on TikTok and Reels.
- Workshop videos build trust: people like seeing the work.
- Interior designers and estate agents can send you clients for a commission. Give them an affiliate link.
- Google Business Profile so people searching "furniture near me" find you. See how to get customers with Google Business Profile.
- Delivered-piece photos from happy customers.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell furniture online without a showroom?
Yes. Good photos, measurements, reviews and workshop videos replace most showroom visits. Let serious buyers visit the workshop by appointment if they want to.
How do I stop buyers cancelling custom orders?
Take a deposit that covers materials before you start, and write the design and delivery date on the invoice. A buyer who has paid a deposit rarely disappears.
Should I offer pay on delivery for furniture?
For small ready-made items, yes. For big or custom pieces, take a deposit first and the balance before the truck leaves.
