To sell digital products with Facebook ads, send cold traffic to one page that sells one product, charge a price a stranger will pay on a first visit, and test a few ads with a small daily budget before you spend more. Digital products suit ads well because there is nothing to ship, so every extra sale costs you almost nothing. This playbook covers the whole path in order. The deeper guides are linked at each step.
Do digital products work with Facebook ads?
Yes, if the numbers add up. You pay Meta for clicks, a small share of those clicks buy, and you keep what is left after fees. A GH₵ 120 ebook is easy to advertise. A GH₵ 20 ebook usually is not, because one sale barely covers the ad cost.
Before you spend a cedi, work out your break-even cost per sale: the price minus the payment fee. On Paylead, online payments cost 4% + GH₵ 1, so a GH₵ 120 product leaves GH₵ 114.20. If a sale costs you more than that in ads, you lose money on the first sale. Some sellers accept that and earn it back from upsells and email, but be sure you are doing it on purpose.
Step 1: Pick a product people already want
Ads do not create wants. They find people who already have the problem. Good first products for ads solve one clear problem: a CV template pack for job seekers, a WAEC revision guide, a meal plan, a Lightroom preset pack. If you are still choosing, start with digital products to sell in Ghana.
Step 2: Build one page that sells one thing
Do not send ad clicks to your Instagram profile or a store with 30 products. Send them to a single sales page or product page with:
- A headline that names the result the buyer gets
- Three to five benefits, not features (see features vs benefits)
- Screenshots or a preview of what is inside
- The price and a button that opens checkout with MoMo and card
- A few real testimonials, if you have them
On Paylead you can build a sales page and sell the file with automatic delivery, so a buyer who pays at 2 a.m. gets the download at 2 a.m.
Step 3: Install tracking before the first ad
If Meta cannot see your sales, it cannot learn who buys. Connect your Meta pixel and, ideally, the Conversions API so mobile money sales count even when the buyer closes the page. Paylead does this in Store Settings: connect your Meta pixel.
Step 4: Make three to five ads
For a first test, change one thing at a time. A simple set:
| Ad | Angle |
|---|---|
| 1 | The problem, told as a short story |
| 2 | The result, with a screenshot of the product |
| 3 | A testimonial or a number from a real buyer |
| 4 | A direct offer: what it is, the price, the button |
Short vertical video shot on your phone often beats a polished graphic. For ideas that work for creators, read Facebook ad creative ideas for digital products. For the words, see Facebook ad copy examples for creators.
Step 5: Set up the campaign simply
- Objective: Sales (called Conversions in older menus) once your pixel is working. Use Traffic only if you have no tracking yet.
- Audience: Start broad inside Ghana, age 18 to 45, with one or two interests at most. Meta finds buyers faster with room to move.
- Placements: Leave on automatic so you get Facebook, Instagram and Reels.
- Budget and length: Run each test for at least three to four days before you judge it. How much to spend is its own question: see how much to spend on Facebook ads in Ghana.
Step 6: Read the numbers
You do not need ten metrics. Watch these:
- Cost per purchase, compared with your break-even number
- Click-through rate. If very few people click, your ad is the problem
- Landing page conversion. If many click but few buy, your page is the problem
Clicks but no sales is the most common trouble, and it is almost always the page, the price or the tracking. Start with why your Facebook ads get clicks but no sales.
Step 7: Scale slowly
When one ad gets sales under your break-even cost, raise its budget by about 20% every few days instead of doubling it. Add a retargeting ad for people who visited and did not buy. Then raise your average order with an order bump, so each sale pays for more ads.
Mistakes beginners make
- Boosting a post instead of making a proper ad
- Sending traffic to a page that does not load fast on mobile data
- Changing the ad every day, so Meta never learns
- Judging an ad after one day and GH₵ 20
- Selling a very cheap product with no upsell

FAQ
How much does it cost to start?
You can test with a small daily budget. Meta lets you set your own, and what is sensible depends on your price. See the budget guide linked above.
Should I use Facebook ads or Instagram ads?
Use both through one Meta campaign. Automatic placements show your ad on each and Meta moves money to the one that works.
Do I need a Facebook page?
Yes. Meta ads run from a Facebook page, which can also be linked to your Instagram account.
Why did Facebook reject my ad?
Usually for claims about money or health, or for before-and-after images. See why Facebook rejected your ad.
