A good order bump pricing strategy is simple: price the bump well below the main product, usually between 10% and 30% of it, so that ticking the box feels like a tiny decision. A GH₵ 150 course might carry a GH₵ 20 to GH₵ 45 bump. The right price within that range depends on how much the bump helps, what it costs you and how your own buyers react, so test it.
The basic rule: keep the bump small
By the time someone reaches checkout they have already agreed to the main price. A bump that costs a similar amount asks them to decide again. A bump that costs a fraction feels like an easy extra. This is why a rule of thumb of 10% to 30% works for most sellers. It is a starting point, not a law.
Order bump price by main product price
| Main product price | Bump range (10% to 30%) | Example bump |
|---|---|---|
| GH₵ 50 | GH₵ 5 to GH₵ 15 | Checklist PDF, GH₵ 10 |
| GH₵ 100 | GH₵ 10 to GH₵ 30 | Template pack, GH₵ 25 |
| GH₵ 150 | GH₵ 15 to GH₵ 45 | Workbook, GH₵ 30 |
| GH₵ 400 | GH₵ 40 to GH₵ 120 | Group WhatsApp access, GH₵ 60 |
| GH₵ 1,200 | GH₵ 120 to GH₵ 360 | Care kit, GH₵ 150 |
For very cheap main products the bump can go higher as a percentage, because the cedi amount is still small. A GH₵ 20 ebook can carry a GH₵ 10 bump.
5 things that should change your bump price
- How much it helps. A bump that saves hours (ready-made templates) can sit near 30%. A nice-to-have should sit near 10%.
- What it costs you. A digital bump costs almost nothing to deliver, so you have room to price low and win more takers. A physical bump has a real cost, so make sure the margin works.
- Your fees. Online payments on Paylead cost 4% + GH₵ 1 per sale. On a GH₵ 10 bump, that is GH₵ 1.40 in fees, so very tiny bumps lose a larger share to the fixed GH₵ 1. Check the maths before you price at GH₵ 5. Sellers can also pass the fee to the buyer.
- Who is buying. A student buying a GH₵ 40 study guide has a smaller comfort zone than a professional buying a GH₵ 400 course.
- The anchor. Show the normal price next to the bundle price: "GH₵ 30 here, GH₵ 60 on its own". Only do this if the normal price is real.
Should you discount the bump?
Yes, but honestly. The offer builder lets you set a full price, a percentage off or an amount off. A genuine discount for checkout only gives the buyer a reason to tick now. A fake discount costs you trust. If the extra has never been sold alone, just price it fairly and explain what it does.
Free, cheap or paid?
Free "bumps" do not make money. A very cheap one (GH₵ 5 to GH₵ 10) can get many takers but may earn little after fees. A mid-priced bump with clear value is usually the better test. Try one price for two weeks, then change it and compare.
How to test your bump price
- Pick one bump and one price.
- Let at least a few dozen buyers see it before judging.
- Look at seen, taken and revenue for the offer. Paylead shows all three on each offer.
- Change one thing at a time: the price, the headline or the description.
- Keep the version that earns the most revenue per buyer, not just the highest take rate.
Revenue per buyer is the number that counts. A GH₵ 20 bump taken by 30% of buyers earns GH₵ 6 per buyer. A GH₵ 40 bump taken by 18% earns GH₵ 7.20. The cheaper bump looks more popular but earns less.
Pricing mistakes
- Pricing the bump above 50% of the main product.
- Pricing it so low that the fixed fee eats the profit.
- Changing the price every day, so you never get a clear result.
- Offering a bump that does not match the buyer, such as a GH₵ 300 add-on to a GH₵ 30 product.

FAQ
What percentage should an order bump be?
Most sellers start at 10% to 30% of the main product price and test from there.
Can an order bump be more expensive than the main product?
It can, but it rarely works. That is closer to an upsell, which belongs after payment. See order bump vs upsell.
What is the best price for a first test?
About 20% of the main price. Then move up or down based on revenue per buyer.
Should I offer a discount on the bump?
Only a real one. A true checkout-only saving helps. A made-up one hurts trust.
