Pricing is where most creators freeze. Price too low and you work hard for little, and buyers wonder what's wrong with it. Price too high without proof and nobody buys.
Here's a simple way to price digital products, courses and coaching in Ghana, and to adjust once real buyers respond.
The rule: price the result, not the effort
A 20-page guide that helps someone land a GH₵ 4,000-a-month job is worth more than a 200-page book of general tips. Ask:
- What does the buyer get? A job, a passed exam, more sales, saved time, a skill that earns.
- What is that worth to them? In money, time or stress.
- What's the alternative? Hiring someone, a physical class, months of trial and error.
Your price should be a small fraction of the value of the result.
Typical price ranges in Ghana
| Product | Common range |
|---|---|
| Single template or short checklist | GH₵ 10 – 50 |
| E-book or detailed guide | GH₵ 30 – 150 |
| Template pack or bundle | GH₵ 50 – 300 |
| Live webinar seat | GH₵ 50 – 300 |
| Online course | GH₵ 150 – 1,500 |
| 60-minute consultation | GH₵ 200 – 800 |
| Coaching program | GH₵ 1,500+ |
Your audience matters: students have less to spend than business owners. A course for shop owners on getting more sales can charge more than a hobby course.
Five pricing tactics that work
1. Odd endings. GH₵ 99 feels clearly cheaper than GH₵ 100, and GH₵ 149 than GH₵ 150.
2. Launch price. "GH₵ 199 this week, then GH₵ 299." A real deadline gets people off the fence. Use a coupon or a payment link with an expiry date.
3. Three options. Offer Basic, Standard and Premium. Most people pick the middle one, and some pick the top. For example:
- E-book: GH₵ 79
- E-book + templates: GH₵ 149
- E-book + templates + a 30-minute call: GH₵ 399
4. Bundles. Three products at a discount raise your average order: "All three guides for GH₵ 150 instead of GH₵ 210".
5. Order bumps and upsells. A small add-on at checkout (GH₵ 30 bonus pack) and a bigger offer after payment (the full course) can lift what each buyer spends. Read: Order bumps and upsells explained.
When to use "pay what you want"
Pay what you want (with a minimum, or free) works for:
- Lead magnets: a free guide that collects emails.
- Fan support: music, sermons, art.
- Testing demand before setting a fixed price.
Paylead lets you choose fixed, pay what you want or free for any digital product.
Don't forget fees
On Paylead each online sale costs 4% + GH₵ 1. On a GH₵ 99 e-book that's GH₵ 4.96, so you keep about GH₵ 94. If you want to keep the full price, turn on Customer pays transaction charges and the buyer covers it at checkout. See pricing.
Price in cedis for local buyers
Pricing in cedis makes the cost clear and avoids buyers doing exchange-rate maths. Buyers abroad can still pay the cedi price by Visa or Mastercard.
How to know if your price is wrong
- Lots of interest, few sales: the page might not explain the value. Fix the page before cutting the price.
- Sales from strangers on day one: you may be too cheap. Raise the price for the next launch.
- Buyers say "it was worth much more": it was. Raise it.
- Nobody buys at all: check whether the problem you solve is urgent for the people you're reaching.
Change one thing at a time and give each change a week or two.
Raise prices as you grow
Every review, result and testimonial makes your product easier to sell at a higher price. Raise prices for new buyers when you add content, collect strong reviews or sell out live sessions. Existing buyers keep what they paid for.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I charge for an e-book in Ghana?
Most e-books sell for GH₵ 30 to GH₵ 150. Charge more when the e-book leads to a valuable result, such as a job, a business skill or an exam pass.
How much should I charge for an online course in Ghana?
Courses usually sell for GH₵ 150 to GH₵ 1,500. Courses that help people earn or get certified can charge more, especially with support or live sessions.
Is it better to price low to get more sales?
Not always. Very low prices can make buyers doubt the quality and leave you little to reinvest. Price fairly for the result and use launch discounts for urgency.
Should I show prices or let people DM?
Show prices. Many buyers leave rather than message to ask.
Can buyers outside Ghana pay my cedi price?
Yes, by Visa or Mastercard.
