A tip page (also written as tippage) is a single web page where fans, viewers or readers send you money in any amount, with an optional message. They open the link, choose or type an amount, and pay. It is a way to say thank you for free content, and it works well for creators who do not charge for their work directly. In Ghana, a good tip page takes mobile money and cards, so fans can pay without an account.
How does a tip page work?
- You share the link: in your bio, under videos, in your newsletter or at the end of an episode.
- A fan opens it and picks a suggested amount or types their own.
- They add a short message if they want.
- They pay by mobile money or card.
- They get a thank-you receipt. You see the tip like any other sale.
No sign-up for the fan, and no monthly fee to you on the free plan.
Who uses a tip page?
- YouTubers and TikTokers who give out free videos
- Podcasters whose listeners want to say thanks
- Musicians and beatmakers sharing songs before selling them
- Writers and bloggers with free articles
- Teachers and tutors who post free lessons on social media
- Artists and photographers with a following
- Churches and community projects, although for regular giving a donation box may be a better fit
Tip page vs tip jar vs donations vs subscription
| What it is | Best for | |
|---|---|---|
| Tip page | One page for one-off support | Free content and fans who want to say thanks |
| Donation page | Fundraising, usually with a cause or goal | Churches, NGOs, campaigns |
| Subscription | A fixed amount every month, often with perks | Fans who want ongoing access |
| Payment link | A charge for a specific item or service | Selling something |
A tip is a gift, not a purchase. If you want to sell something in return, use a product or a subscription. See how to accept tips from fans in Ghana for the full set-up and ways to encourage more tips.
How to set up a tip page on Paylead
Every Paylead store comes with a tip page, ready the moment your store is. We checked the feature in the product:
- Create your free account.
- Open Store Settings and find Tip page on the General tab.
- Choose its look. It shares the six looks with your store.
- Set the smallest amount someone can send, if you want one.
- Save and copy the link.
Fans choose a suggested amount or type their own, add an optional message and pay by mobile money or card. Each tip comes with a thank-you receipt, by SMS too when they leave a number. You can also set a goal with a title and an amount, so fans see what they are helping you reach. The help guide has the steps.
To put a floating "Support me" button on your own website instead, see add a tip button to your website.
What does it cost?
A tip costs 4% + GH₵ 1. A GH₵ 50 tip costs GH₵ 3, so GH₵ 47 reaches you. Withdrawals cost a flat GH₵ 5.
How to get more tips
- Give a reason. "Help me buy a microphone" beats "Support me".
- Ask at the right time. After a helpful video, not before it.
- Say it out loud. Mention the link in the video, not just the description.
- Thank people. Name supporters in your next post, with their permission.
- Show progress towards a goal.
- Offer something back for bigger fans, such as a digital download or a supporters' club. See how to make money from your YouTube audience.
Do tips replace a business?
Not usually. Tips are unpredictable and small compared with selling a product or service. Use a tip page as one part of your income, next to ebooks, courses, templates or memberships you can sell to the same audience.
