More and more people want to give from their phone. Members who travel, supporters abroad, and donors who saw your work on Facebook all ask the same thing: "How can I send it?"
Sharing a personal MoMo number works until it doesn't. Money mixes with personal funds, nobody gets a receipt, and the treasurer spends Monday matching screenshots to names.
Here's a better way for churches, mosques, NGOs, school PTAs, alumni groups and community funds.
What a good giving setup needs
- Every way people pay: MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money and cards for givers abroad.
- Any amount, with suggested amounts to tap.
- Separate funds: tithe, offering, building fund, a project, an appeal.
- A receipt for every giver, automatically.
- One record of who gave what, when, without screenshots.
- Easy to find: on your website, in WhatsApp, and on a QR code at the door.
Step 1: Create a payment link for each fund
On Paylead, a payment link is the simplest way to take gifts. You don't need a product or a store.
- Go to Get paid → New payment link.
- Name it after the fund, for example "Tithe and offering" or "School building appeal".
- Choose Buyer enters amount so people give what they want. Set a smallest amount if you like.
- Make it reusable, so the same link works every week.
- Save it.
Make one link per fund. Then each gift lands under the right fund and your treasurer sees the totals without sorting anything.
Step 2: Put a donation box on your website
If you have a website, put the giving form right on it:
- Open the payment link and click Embed.
- Choose Pay box.
- Under Amounts to tap, enter amounts like
20,50,100,200. - Copy the code and paste it on your "Give" page.
Givers tap an amount or type their own and pay by MoMo or card without leaving your site. The help guide on adding a donation box has the details.
Step 3: Share it where people already are
- WhatsApp: pin the link in your church or members' group and post it in your status on giving days.
- QR code: download the link's QR code and print it on the bulletin, the offering table and the back wall.
- Social media: put the link in your Facebook page, Instagram bio and YouTube description, especially for livestreams.
Every giver gets a receipt
When someone gives, they get a receipt straight away. Every gift also shows on the payment link and in your Orders, with the giver's details, so you can thank them and keep accurate records.
Fees
Each gift costs 4% + GH₵ 1, with payment processing included. On a GH₵ 100 gift that's GH₵ 5. If your givers are happy to cover it, turn on Customer pays transaction charges and the full amount reaches your fund. Withdrawals to your MoMo or bank account are a flat GH₵ 5 and arrive the next working day. See pricing.
Tips for more online giving
Announce it from the front. A 30-second mention with the QR code on screen does more than any poster.
Name the purpose. "Help us finish the roof" raises more than "Donate".
Say thank you. A short message to every giver, and a monthly update on what the money did, keeps people giving.
Keep it in the church's name. Use your organisation's name on the store and payout account, not a person's, so giving stays trustworthy and accountable.
