To find a digital product idea, list what you know and what people already ask you for, match each skill to a problem someone will pay to solve, then test that demand before you build anything. A product idea is not a clever invention. It is a clear problem, a specific person and a format such as an ebook, template, course or preset pack. If you want a head start, our free digital product idea generator gives you ideas from your skills and audience.
What makes a good digital product idea?
A good idea has four things:
- A specific buyer. "Final-year students at KNUST", not "everyone".
- A problem they feel now. A deadline, a cost, a fear or a goal.
- A clear result. After using it, they can do or have something.
- A format that suits it. Templates for doing, ebooks for knowing, courses for learning step by step.
Step 1: List what you can teach or make
Write down answers to these. Do not judge yet.
- What do people ask me for help with?
- What have I learned the hard way in the last two years?
- What do I do faster than most people?
- What job, course or business have I done that others want to enter?
- What do I make: designs, recipes, beats, notes, spreadsheets?
Step 2: Find the problem behind each skill
For each item, ask "who wants this, and why?" A skill alone is not a product. A problem is.
| Skill | Problem | Idea |
|---|---|---|
| Good at Excel | Small shops cannot track stock | Stock and sales tracker template |
| Passed WASSCE with top grades | Students panic before exams | 30-day revision plan |
| Cooks well | Busy workers eat badly | Weekly meal plan with a shopping list in cedis |
| Edits photos | Instagram sellers have dull photos | Lightroom preset pack |
| Worked in HR | Graduates cannot get interviews | CV and interview pack |

Step 3: Look for proof that people want it
Before you build, look for signs of demand:
- People already pay for something similar. A competitor is a good sign, not a bad one.
- People ask in comments, WhatsApp groups and DMs. Save the exact words they use.
- Searches exist. Type the topic into Google and YouTube and read the suggestions.
- Your own audience reacts. Post about the idea and count the replies.
If you find no sign of anyone wanting it, move to the next idea.
Step 4: Test before you build
You can check demand in a weekend.
- Write the title, the promise and a price.
- Make a simple product page with a preview, or a one-page outline.
- Tell your audience, or ask ten people you know who fit the buyer.
- Offer a pre-order at a launch price. The best test is whether someone pays. Compliments do not count.
If three to five people pay, build it. If nobody does, change the promise or the buyer and test again. Read how to take pre-orders in Ghana and how to launch a digital product in Ghana.
Step 5: Choose a format and a price
Keep your first product small: one problem, finished in a day or two by the buyer.
- Template or checklist: GH₵ 30 to GH₵ 100
- Ebook or guide: GH₵ 50 to GH₵ 150
- Course or workshop: higher, with more support
These are only examples, not rules. Use how to price digital products in Ghana to set yours based on the result, not on the page count.

FAQ
How do I know a product idea will sell?
You do not know until someone pays. Pre-sell it, or share it with a small audience before you build.
Can I sell a product if I am not an expert?
Yes, if you can help a beginner get one result you already got. You do not need to be the best.
How many ideas should I test?
Test three. Pick the one with the strongest response.
What if my idea already exists?
Good. Make it for a narrower group or add your own local examples.
