How to take pre-orders in Ghana before your stock arrives

To take pre-orders in Ghana, list the item with clear arrival dates, cap how many you sell, and collect full payment or a deposit by MoMo or card. On Paylead you can do this with a physical product and a stock limit, or with a payment link for deposits. Buyers see exactly what they ordered, and you see every pre-order in one list.

Why pre-orders work

You find out what people actually want before you spend on stock, and the money from pre-orders helps pay your supplier. The key is honesty: buyers must know when the item will arrive.

Option 1: full payment with a stock limit

  1. Click Create product → Physical Product: add a physical product.
  2. Put "Pre-order" and the expected date in the name and description, for example "Pre-order: Ankara tote, ships 15 November".
  3. Turn on Limit how many you can sell and set it to the quantity you are ordering.
  4. Share the link. Sales stop when the limit is reached.

Option 2: a deposit now, the rest on arrival

  1. Create a reusable payment link with a fixed deposit, for example "Pre-order deposit: iPhone case bundle, GH₵ 50".
  2. Set a limit for the number of pre-orders and an expiry date.
  3. When stock arrives, send each buyer a second link for the balance, or let them pay on delivery.

Keep buyers in the loop

  • Text pre-order buyers when stock lands with an SMS campaign.
  • Tag them in Customers so you can email them as a group: email campaigns.
  • If a shipment is late, tell them before they ask.

What it costs

Online payments cost 4% + GH₵ 1. A GH₵ 250 pre-order costs GH₵ 11. If you later collect the balance by pay on delivery, that part costs 2% + GH₵ 1.

Frequently asked questions

Does Paylead have a special pre-order button?

No. You take pre-orders with a normal product (with a stock limit and the date in its name) or a payment link for deposits.

What if the stock never arrives?

Contact your buyers straight away. Refunds are handled by the Paylead team on request, so use the Help button in your dashboard.

Can I take pre-orders for digital products?

It is simpler to launch them on the day. Collect emails in advance with a form and email everyone at launch.

How many should I take?

No more than you are sure your supplier can deliver on time.
