How to sell baby products online in Ghana

To sell baby products online in Ghana, start with things parents buy again and again (diapers, wipes, toiletries) plus a few gift-friendly items like newborn bundles, show clear photos and exact sizes or ages, and take orders through an online store with mobile money and pay on delivery. Parents care about safety and speed more than anything, so honest product details and quick delivery win their trust.

Baby products are a strong business because babies grow fast. A parent who trusts you will buy from you for years: newborn clothes, then bigger sizes, then school things.

1. Pick what to stock

Fast movers (repeat buys):

  • Diapers and wipes in common sizes
  • Baby toiletries: soap, lotion, oil, powder
  • Feeding bottles and teats

Gift and one-off items:

  • Newborn clothing sets
  • Baby carriers and wraps
  • Cots, walkers and bouncers
  • Hospital bags packed for delivery day

Start with a few fast movers so cash keeps coming in, and add gift items once you know your buyers.

2. Earn parents' trust

Parents won't risk their baby on a seller who looks careless.

  • Show the real product and label in every photo, including expiry dates for toiletries and food.
  • Give exact sizes: "0–3 months, fits up to 6 kg", not just "small".
  • Say where it comes from and whether it's new.
  • Show real reviews from other parents. See how to get customer reviews.
  • Answer quickly on WhatsApp. A fast reply sells more than a discount.

3. Sell bundles

Bundles are where baby stores make good money:

  • Hospital bag bundle: everything a mother needs for delivery day.
  • Newborn starter pack: clothes, wrapper, toiletries and diapers.
  • Baby shower gift box in three price levels.

On Paylead, a bundle is sold as one product with one price, so buyers decide once. Offer wipes or a pack of bibs as an order bump at checkout.

4. Set up your store

  1. Open a free Paylead store.
  2. Add each item as a physical product with photos, size and age range.
  3. Use options for sizes and colours, each with its own stock.
  4. Set your delivery fee and a free-delivery amount to encourage bigger orders.
  5. Turn on pay on delivery for buyers who prefer to pay at the door.

Parents pay with MoMo or card, and you get their name, phone and address with every order.

5. Price with care

Diapers and wipes are compared on price, so margins are thin. Make your money on bundles, clothes and gifts. For each product add cost, packaging, delivery and fees (on Paylead, 4% + GH₵ 1 per online sale and 2% + GH₵ 1 for pay on delivery), then your profit. See how to price physical products.

6. Make reordering easy

A family buying a pack of diapers every two weeks is your best customer.

  • Send a reminder when they're likely to run low, using an automatic follow-up a couple of weeks after the order.
  • Keep a WhatsApp broadcast list of parents (with their permission) for new stock and offers.
  • When a size runs out for a child, suggest the next size up.

7. Find parents

  • Antenatal and parenting WhatsApp groups, where the admin allows it.
  • Midwives, nurses and baby photographers as affiliates earning a small commission.
  • Instagram and TikTok videos of what's in a hospital bag, or a newborn haul.
  • Gift buyers: aunties, friends and colleagues planning a baby shower. Make gift boxes easy to send to someone else's address.

Frequently asked questions

What baby products sell fastest in Ghana?

Diapers, wipes and baby toiletries sell most often because every family needs them every week. Newborn bundles and gift boxes bring bigger orders.

Do I need a licence to sell baby products?

Clothing and accessories generally need only a registered business. Food, formula, medicines and some toiletries can need approval from the Food and Drugs Authority. Check with the FDA before selling them. See how to register a business in Ghana.

Should I offer pay on delivery?

Yes, at least at first: many new parents want to see the items. Confirm each order by phone before sending to reduce failed deliveries.
