Payhip in Ghana: what works and what doesn't

Payhip can work for a Ghanaian seller, but mainly through Paystack or Flutterwave, because Payhip lists Ghana for those two gateways. Its own help pages show cards and PayPal as the main buyer payment methods, and we found no mention of mobile money. If most of your buyers pay with MoMo, check carefully before you commit.

Checked on 4 November 2026 on Payhip's pricing page, its help centre and its payment gateways announcement. Payhip changes its setup often, so confirm the details for your account.

Payhip at a glance

Plan Monthly price Payhip fee per sale
Free Forever $0 5%
Plus $29 2%
Pro $99 None

Payhip says all plans include every feature, unlimited products and unlimited revenue. Payment processors charge their own fees on top, on every plan.

Can a Ghanaian seller get paid?

Payhip works through payment gateways. Its announcement lists Paystack for Ghana (alongside Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa) and Flutterwave for Ghana (and several other African countries). So the likely route for a seller in Ghana is to connect Paystack or Flutterwave.

Stripe is a different story. Payhip's help page says Stripe is supported in "over 40 countries" and Ghana did not appear in the examples we read. PayPal is described as supported in over 200 countries, but the page we checked does not list Ghana by name. Ask Payhip support if you plan to rely on either.

Payhip says sales are deposited straight after the transaction. With a gateway, your payout then follows that gateway's own rules. Paystack's Ghana page lists next working day settlement.

Can Ghanaian buyers pay with MoMo?

We could not confirm it. Payhip's pricing page lists PayPal and cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Discover and Diners Club). The gateways article does not mention mobile money at all. Paystack and Flutterwave support mobile money in Ghana themselves, but whether Payhip's checkout shows that option is something to test before you launch. Open a test product, then try to pay as a buyer in Ghana.

What Payhip does well

  • One flat price per plan, with no feature locks.
  • Many product types: digital downloads, online courses, coaching, memberships and physical products.
  • A store builder and email marketing in the same account.
  • Tax handling: Payhip says it collects, reports and remits digital EU and UK VAT and US and Canadian sales tax. That matters if you sell to buyers in Europe.
  • A free plan with no credit card needed, and you can cancel any time.

What it costs on a GH₵ 100 sale

Say you sell a GH₵ 100 ebook and use Paystack as your gateway on the free plan. The figures below assume Paystack's Ghana rate of 1.95% for local transactions (checked on Paystack's pricing article). Confirm that Paystack applies it the same way when used through Payhip.

Payhip Free + Paystack Paylead Starter
Platform fee GH₵ 5.00 (5%) GH₵ 2.00 + GH₵ 1.00
Processing GH₵ 1.95 (1.95%) Included (2%)
Total per sale About GH₵ 6.95 GH₵ 5.00

Paylead charges 4% + GH₵ 1 per online sale on every plan, with processing included. On 100 sales of GH₵ 100, that is GH₵ 500 on Paylead against about GH₵ 695 on Payhip's free plan. Payhip's Plus plan costs $29 a month for a 2% platform fee, so the maths shifts if you sell a lot. Convert the dollar price at today's rate before you compare. Withdrawal fees are extra on both sides: Paylead charges GH₵ 5 per withdrawal.

Payhip vs Paylead for a Ghanaian seller

Payhip Paylead
Built for sellers in Ghana No, global Yes, Ghana-first
Priced in US dollars Ghana cedis
Buyer pays with Cards and PayPal (MoMo not confirmed) MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money, Visa, Mastercard
Fee on the free plan 5% + processor fees 4% + GH₵ 1, processing included
Pay on delivery Not shown on its pricing page Yes, 2% + GH₵ 1
EU VAT handling Yes Not a Paylead feature

Paylead is for sellers in Ghana only today. Nigeria is planned. If you sell mostly to Europe or the US, Payhip's tax tools may matter more to you than MoMo.

Who each one suits

Payhip suits you if your buyers are mostly abroad and pay by card or PayPal, you want EU VAT handled for you, and you are happy to set up Paystack or Flutterwave yourself.

Paylead suits you if your buyers are in Ghana and pay with MoMo, you want to price in cedis, and you also sell physical items with pay on delivery. Our guide to accepting payments from abroad explains the trade-offs if you have some overseas buyers too.
