How to write an ebook in 30 days (even if you're not a writer)

To write an ebook in 30 days, choose one specific problem you can solve, outline it as 8–12 short chapters, write about 500 words a day for three weeks, then spend the last week editing, designing and setting it up for sale. You don't need to be a great writer. Readers pay for clear, useful steps, not fancy language. A 30–50 page guide that gets someone a result is a real product.

Before day 1: pick the right topic

The best ebooks solve one problem for one kind of person. Test your idea:

  • Do people ask you about it? If friends keep asking how you got your UK visa, passed the ICAG exams or started your bakery, that's a topic.
  • Is it specific? "Money" is vague. "How to save your first GH₵ 5,000 on a national service allowance" is specific.
  • Will people pay to save time or avoid mistakes? That's what makes a guide worth GH₵ 50–GH₵ 150.

Week 1: plan (days 1–7)

Day 1: promise. Finish this sentence: "After reading this, you'll be able to ___." That's your title's promise.

Day 2: questions. List every question a beginner has about the topic. Ask your WhatsApp contacts too. Aim for 30+.

Day 3: outline. Group the questions into 8–12 chapters, in the order someone would need them.

Day 4: chapter notes. Under each chapter, write 3–5 bullet points: the steps, examples and mistakes.

Days 5–7: start writing. Begin with the chapter you know best, not chapter one. Momentum matters more than order.

Weeks 2–3: write (days 8–21)

  • 500 words a day. About 30–45 minutes. In two weeks that's 7,000 words, about 30–40 pages with headings and lists.
  • Write like you talk. Imagine explaining it to a friend. Voice notes help: talk it through, then type it up.
  • Use examples from Ghana. Prices in cedis, places people know, real situations.
  • Add tools people can use: checklists, templates, tables, scripts.
  • Don't edit while writing. Get it down first.

Week 4: finish and publish (days 22–30)

Days 22–24: edit. Cut repetition, check facts and numbers, make each chapter end with an action.

Day 25: get one reader. Ask someone in your target audience to read it and tell you where they got confused.

Days 26–27: design. Put it in a clean template and make a cover. See how to create an ebook with Canva. Export as PDF.

Day 28: price it. Most practical ebooks in Ghana sell for GH₵ 30–GH₵ 150. See how to price digital products.

Day 29: set up the sale. On Paylead, create a digital product, upload the PDF and switch on protection (download limit, link expiry). Buyers get it by email right after paying with MoMo or card.

Day 30: tell people. Start marketing. See how to market your ebook in Ghana.

What a good ebook includes

  • A short intro: who it's for and what they'll get.
  • Chapters with clear headings and steps.
  • Examples and mistakes to avoid.
  • A checklist or summary at the end.
  • How to reach you, and what to buy next (a course, coaching or your next book).

Frequently asked questions

How long should my ebook be?

Long enough to solve the problem, and no longer. 20–60 pages is plenty for most practical guides.

Do I need an ISBN to sell an ebook in Ghana?

Not to sell it from your own store. An ISBN matters if you want it in libraries or some bookstores.

Can I write it on my phone?

Yes. Google Docs on your phone works. Voice typing makes it faster.
