How to sell shoes and sneakers online in Ghana

To sell shoes online in Ghana, list every pair with clear photos from four angles, track stock by size, add a simple size chart, and sell through an online store that takes mobile money and offers pay on delivery. Most shoe returns come from the wrong size, so the size chart is the most important page in your store.

Shoes sell well online because buyers know what they want and come back for new drops. Here's how to set it up so you make money instead of handling swaps all week.

1. Decide what you sell

  • Sneakers: new, thrift ("first grade") or pre-order from abroad.
  • Slides and sandals: cheaper, faster-moving, good for volume.
  • Ladies' heels and flats for work and occasions.
  • Men's corporate shoes and loafers.
  • Children's shoes: parents reorder as feet grow.

Say plainly whether a pair is new, thrift or a replica. Honesty is what keeps payment disputes and angry comments away.

2. Take photos that answer questions

Every pair needs:

  • Side, front, back and sole. The sole shows wear on thrift pairs.
  • A photo on feet so buyers see the shape.
  • A close-up of the label or size tag.
  • A short video walking in them.

Shoot in daylight on a plain floor. See how to take product photos with your phone.

3. Stop size problems before they start

Put a size chart on every product and in your bio:

UK EU US (men) Foot length
6 39 7 24.5 cm
7 40–41 8 25.5 cm
8 42 9 26.5 cm
9 43 10 27.5 cm
10 44–45 11 28.5 cm

Brands differ, so add a line like "This model runs small, take one size up." Ask buyers to measure their foot from heel to longest toe if they're unsure.

4. Track stock by size

Nothing annoys a buyer more than paying for a size you don't have. On Paylead:

  1. Create your free store.
  2. Add each model as a physical product.
  3. Add options for size (and colour if needed). Each option has its own stock, so size 42 can sell out while 43 stays available.
  4. Mark a pair out of stock the moment it's gone.

5. Price with returns in mind

For each pair, add the cost, delivery packaging, a little for the swaps you'll do, and fees: 4% + GH₵ 1 per online sale on Paylead, 2% + GH₵ 1 for pay on delivery. Then add your profit.

Raise your average order with socks, shoe cleaner or a second pair at a discount. Add them as an order bump at checkout.

6. Pay on delivery, safely

Many Ghanaian buyers want to see shoes before paying. Pay on delivery wins those sales, but failed deliveries cost you rider fees. To reduce them:

  • Call or WhatsApp to confirm the order and size before sending.
  • Ask for the delivery fee up front with a payment link.
  • Let the buyer try them on while the rider waits a few minutes.

Read how to reduce failed deliveries.

7. Sell drops, not just shoes

Sneaker buyers love a launch. Announce new stock a day before ("Friday 7pm drop, 12 pairs only"), post the link at the time, and update stock live. Real scarcity sells, but never fake it: see how to use urgency honestly.

Grow with:

  • TikTok and Reels of unboxing, cleaning and styling. See how to sell on TikTok in Ghana.
  • WhatsApp status for every new pair.
  • Customer photos with permission.

8. Handle swaps and returns

Write your policy on every product: for example, size swaps within 3 days if the shoes are unworn, buyer pays the second delivery. Paylead lets buyers request a return from their order page, and you approve or reject it from Shipping → Returns. See how to handle returns.

Frequently asked questions

Is it profitable to sell sneakers in Ghana?

It can be, if you buy well and turn stock fast. Thrift sneakers have good margins but need careful grading. New sneakers move faster but margins are thinner. Track your profit margin per pair.

Should I sell on Instagram or my own store?

Use Instagram and TikTok to get attention, and your own store to take payment and track stock. Buyers pay without waiting for your DM reply.

How do I deliver shoes outside Accra?

Use a courier or the bus station waybill service, and send the buyer the tracking details. See how to manage deliveries with waybills.
