To sell perfume online in Ghana, pick a clear lane (oils, decants, local blends or gift sets), describe each scent in plain words buyers can imagine, sell small sample sizes so people can try you cheaply, and take orders through an online store with mobile money and pay on delivery. Then post short videos and customer reactions on TikTok, Instagram and your WhatsApp status every day.
Perfume is hard to sell online because nobody can smell your screen. The sellers who do well solve that one problem with words, samples and trust. Here's how.
1. Choose your lane
Buyers remember a seller who is known for one thing:
- Perfume oils in roll-on bottles: cheap to make, long-lasting, popular with students and office workers.
- Decants: 5 ml or 10 ml portions of designer perfumes for people who can't buy the full bottle.
- Your own blends with a Ghanaian name and story.
- Gift sets for birthdays, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Christmas.
- Body mists and room sprays as a cheaper add-on.
If you sell "inspired by" scents, say so honestly. Never call a copy the original. Buyers who feel tricked leave bad reviews, and payment disputes follow.
2. Describe scents so people can smell them
Most perfume listings say "long lasting, nice smell". That sells nothing. Use this simple pattern for every product:
- What it smells like first: "fresh lemon and pepper".
- What it settles into after an hour: "soft vanilla and wood".
- When to wear it: "office days, church, first dates".
- How long it lasts on skin: be honest, for example "6 to 8 hours".
- Who it's for: "if you like Sauvage, try this".

3. Sell samples first
A sample is the cheapest way to get a stranger to trust your nose.
- Sell a sample set of three or five small vials at a low price.
- Put a note in the box: "Loved one? Use code FULLSIZE for 10% off the full bottle."
- Create that code under discount codes so you can see how many sample buyers come back.
Samples also give you content: film people trying them and picking a favourite.
4. Price so you still make money
For each bottle, add up:
- The oil or perfume itself
- The bottle, roller, box and label
- Your time to fill and pack
- Delivery packaging
- Fees: on Paylead, 4% + GH₵ 1 per online sale, or 2% + GH₵ 1 if the buyer pays cash on delivery
Then add your profit. Sell bundles (three oils for a set price, or a perfume plus body mist) to raise your average order. On Paylead that's a bundle, and you can offer the body mist as an order bump at checkout.
5. Set up your store
- Create a free Paylead store and add your logo and colours.
- Add each scent as a physical product with photos, a short video and your scent description.
- Use options for sizes (10 ml, 30 ml, 50 ml), each with its own price and stock.
- Set your delivery fee and, if you like, a free-delivery amount.
- Turn on pay on delivery for new buyers. See cash on delivery in Ghana.
Buyers pay with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money or card. You get the order with their name, phone and address.
6. Get buyers
- Reaction videos: a friend smelling three scents and choosing one. These get shared.
- "Smells like" posts: "If you like [famous scent], you'll love our Amber Nights."
- WhatsApp status every day with one scent, its price and your store link.
- Gift seasons: plan gift sets three weeks before Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Christmas.
- Office and campus reps: give a few people a small commission per sale with an affiliate link.
7. Keep buyers coming back
Perfume runs out, which is great for you. Ask for a review a week after delivery, then remind buyers about a refill a month or two later with an automatic follow-up. Tell past buyers first when a new scent drops.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell perfume oils from home in Ghana?
Yes. Many sellers start from home with bulk oils, bottles and labels. Keep your space clean, label bottles with the scent and size, and register your business name once sales are steady. See how to register a business in Ghana.
How do I stop people returning perfume they've used?
Write your return policy on every product page: unopened bottles only, or exchanges for leaking or broken bottles. Read how to write a refund policy.
What size should I start with?
Start with 10 ml roll-ons and a sample set. They're cheap to stock, cheap to deliver and easy for new buyers to say yes to.
