How to sell jewellery online in Ghana

To sell jewellery online in Ghana, take clear photos on a plain background, price each piece so materials, time and delivery are covered, put it in an online store that takes mobile money, and share the link on Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp. Offer pay on delivery for buyers who don't know you yet, and take a deposit for custom pieces.

Jewellery is one of the best things to sell online: it's small, light, cheap to deliver and easy to show in a short video. Here's how to set it up properly.

1. Pick what you'll be known for

"Jewellery" is too broad to stand out. Pick a lane:

  • Waist beads and Ghanaian bead jewellery
  • Bridal and occasion pieces for weddings, engagements and outdoorings
  • Everyday gold-plated or stainless steel pieces that don't tarnish
  • Men's bracelets and chains
  • Custom name necklaces and personalised pieces

A clear lane makes your posts, prices and customers easier.

2. Take photos that sell

Buyers can't touch jewellery online, so photos do the work.

  • Daylight by a window, not flash.
  • A plain background: white paper, a neutral cloth or a wooden board.
  • One photo on a person (a wrist, neck or ear) so buyers see the size.
  • A close-up of the clasp and finish.
  • A short video turning the piece in the light. Movement shows sparkle better than any photo.

3. Price for profit

Add up for each piece:

  1. Materials (beads, wire, clasps, chains)
  2. Your time at an hourly rate you'd be happy with
  3. Packaging (pouch, box, card)
  4. Fees: on Paylead, 4% + GH₵ 1 per online sale

Then add your profit. Many sellers price at two to three times the cost of materials. Read how to price your products for the thinking behind it.

Sell sets. A necklace, bracelet and earrings together at a small discount raises your average order. On Paylead that's a bundle.

4. Set up your store

On Paylead:

  1. Create a free store and add your logo and colours.
  2. Add each piece as a physical product with photos, price and stock.
  3. Use options for sizes, lengths or colours, each with its own stock.
  4. Set a delivery fee for your store, and a free-delivery amount if you want one.
  5. Turn on pay on delivery for buyers who prefer to pay when it arrives. See cash on delivery in Ghana.

Buyers pay with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money, Visa or Mastercard, and you get the order with their name, phone number and address.

5. Custom pieces: take a deposit

For name necklaces, bridal sets and anything made to order, take 50% before you start. Send a payment link for the deposit, and another for the balance before delivery. Nobody disappears after you've bought the materials.

6. Get your first buyers

  • Post short videos of pieces being made, packed and worn. See how to sell on TikTok in Ghana.
  • Put your store link in your bio so people can buy without a DM.
  • Post on your WhatsApp status every day with prices and the link.
  • Run a small launch offer: "first 20 orders get a free gift pouch".
  • Ask happy buyers for a photo wearing the piece. Real photos sell better than yours.

7. Deliver and keep them coming back

Pack every order nicely, with a small card and your Instagram handle. Send a delivery update, ask for a review a few days later, and tell past buyers first when a new collection drops. Read how to send follow-ups after a sale.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I sell jewellery online in Ghana?

On your own online store, shared through Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp. Paylead gives you a free store with MoMo checkout and pay on delivery. You can also list on marketplaces, but you'll compete on price with many sellers.

Should I offer pay on delivery for jewellery?

It helps buyers who don't know you yet. To reduce failed deliveries, confirm orders by phone first and consider asking for the delivery fee up front. See how to reduce failed deliveries.

How do I ship jewellery safely?

Use a small padded pouch or box, seal it, and use a delivery rider or courier you trust. See how to manage deliveries with waybills and tracking.
