To run TikTok ads in Ghana, create a TikTok Ads Manager account, add the TikTok pixel to your store so you can track sales, choose a campaign goal (traffic, conversions or video views), set a daily budget and your audience, and upload short, native-looking videos that show your product in the first two seconds. Start small, test three or four different videos, and put more money behind the ones that bring sales.
TikTok is one of the fastest-growing apps in Ghana, especially with under-35s. Its ads can reach many people cheaply, if your videos look like TikTok, not like TV adverts.
1. Set up your account
- Go to TikTok Ads Manager and sign up with your business details.
- Choose your country, time zone and currency carefully. They're hard to change later.
- Add a payment method. Check what payment options TikTok offers for your account.
TikTok sets minimum budgets for campaigns and ad groups. Check the current minimums in Ads Manager before you plan your spend.
2. Add the TikTok pixel
The pixel tells TikTok who visited your store and who bought, so it can find more buyers like them.
- In TikTok Ads Manager, open Events (Events Manager) and create a web pixel.
- Copy your pixel ID.
- On Paylead, open Store settings → Integrations, paste the pixel ID and, optionally, your Events API access token, then save.
Paylead then sends page views, product views, checkouts, purchases and leads to TikTok. The access token lets Paylead send purchases from the server too, so mobile money payments still count when the buyer closes the page. See how to track sales from Facebook, Instagram and TikTok ads.
3. Choose your campaign goal
- Traffic: sends people to your store. Good for testing.
- Website conversions: optimises for purchases. Best once your pixel has recorded some sales.
- Video views: builds awareness and an audience to retarget.
- Lead generation: collects names and numbers in a TikTok form.
For most online stores: start with traffic or conversions to your product page.
4. Spark Ads vs regular ads
- Spark Ads boost an existing organic TikTok post, yours or a creator's (with their permission). They keep likes and comments, and feel more natural.
- Regular ads are uploaded only as ads.
Spark Ads often perform better because they look like normal TikToks. If one of your posts is doing well organically, boost it.
5. Targeting
- Location: Ghana, or specific regions or cities you deliver to.
- Age and gender if your product is clearly for one group.
- Interests and behaviours: beauty, fashion, food, business, etc.
- Broad targeting: with a working pixel and good videos, TikTok often finds buyers well on its own.
Don't over-narrow. Small audiences cost more.
6. Make videos that work on TikTok
The video matters more than any setting.
- Hook in the first 2 seconds: show the product or a surprising result immediately. See ad hooks that stop the scroll.
- Film vertically with your phone. Polished studio videos often perform worse.
- Show it in use: unboxing, before and after, try-on, how it's made.
- Speak or add text so it works with and without sound.
- Say the offer and price clearly, and how to buy.
- Keep it short: 10 to 30 seconds.
Make three or four different videos for each product and let the results decide. See how to test ad creatives.
7. Budget and testing
- Start with a small daily budget you can afford to lose while learning.
- Run for at least three to five days before judging.
- Turn off videos with high costs and no sales; move budget to the winners.
- Increase budget gradually on what works.
8. Track sales, not just views
Views and likes feel good, but sales pay the bills. Check:
- Cost per click and click-through rate: is the video interesting?
- Purchases and cost per purchase from your pixel: is it making money?
- Return on ad spend: sales ÷ ad spend.
Compare cost per purchase with your profit per order. See how to calculate profit margin.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to advertise on TikTok in Ghana?
You set your own budget, above TikTok's minimums for campaigns and ad groups. Costs per view and per click vary by audience, season and how good your video is.
Do I need a TikTok business account?
You need a TikTok Ads Manager account to run ads. A business account on the app also gives you useful analytics.
Should I use TikTok or Facebook ads?
Test both. TikTok often reaches younger audiences cheaply with short videos; Facebook and Instagram have very mature targeting. Many sellers run both. See how to run Facebook and Instagram ads.
