6 best platforms to run a paid community in Ghana (2026)

Ghana runs on WhatsApp groups. Forex and crypto signals, betting tips, fitness challenges, study groups, mastermind circles, fan clubs: people already pay to be in the right group.

The question is how you collect the money every month without spending your evenings checking screenshots and removing people who didn't pay. This guide compares six ways to run a paid community from Ghana, from keeping your WhatsApp group to moving to a dedicated community app.

Details for other platforms were checked on their own websites on 12 October 2026. Check each site before deciding, because plans and fees change.

First decision: keep your group, or move to an app?

  • Keep WhatsApp or Telegram if your members already live there. Nobody has to download anything or learn a new app, and messages reach them where they look all day. You just need a better way to take payment and send the link.
  • Move to a community app (Skool, Circle) if you want courses, a feed, a calendar and leaderboards in one place, and your members are happy to log in somewhere new.

Most Ghanaian communities do better staying on WhatsApp or Telegram and fixing the payment side.

What to look for

  1. Monthly payment by MoMo, with reminders before each renewal.
  2. The group link sent automatically after each payment.
  3. A grace period, so members who are a day late don't drop out for good.
  4. A list of who's paid and who's behind, so you know who to remove.
  5. A join link that works in your bio and status, so people join and pay in one go.
  6. Fees in cedis, not a dollar bill every month.

1. Paylead

Best for: WhatsApp and Telegram groups in Ghana where members pay by MoMo.

Create a subscription, add your group link, and share the join link.

  • Join and pay in one go: members tap your link in your bio, status or posts, pay with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money or a card, and get the group link straight away.
  • Any schedule: weekly, monthly, every 3 months or yearly. Weekly classes, monthly signals, quarterly masterminds, yearly fan clubs.
  • Renewals by reminder: an SMS and email 3 days before, on the day, and 2 days after, each with a one-tap payment link. A 3-day grace period keeps late members in while they renew.
  • Know who's paid: see who renewed, who's due and who's in their grace period, so you know exactly who to remove from the group.
  • Grow: free trials, coupons, and a pricing table or Join button for your own website.
  • Fair prices: when you raise the price, new members pay the new price and current members keep theirs.

Fees: subscriptions are on the Pro plan (GH₵ 149 a month) and Business. Each payment costs 4% + GH₵ 1, processing included. Withdrawals cost GH₵ 5 and arrive the next working day.

Watch out for: Paylead doesn't remove people from WhatsApp for you. You see who has lapsed and remove them yourself.

2. Skool

Best for: communities that mix discussion with courses, with members paying by card.

Skool puts a community feed, courses, a calendar and leaderboards in one app.

  • Cost: Hobby at $9 a month with a 10% transaction fee, or Pro at $99 a month with 2.9%.
  • Strengths: beautifully simple, with gamification that keeps members active.
  • Watch out for: dollar pricing, card payments, and asking members to leave WhatsApp for a new app. Check how payouts reach a Ghanaian creator.

3. Patreon

Best for: creators with an international fan base.

  • Fees: 10% of what you earn, plus processing, currency conversion and payout fees.
  • Strengths: a trusted brand for supporting creators.
  • Watch out for: members pay by card or PayPal, and Patreon is built around posts on Patreon rather than WhatsApp groups. Check payout options for Ghana.

4. Circle

Best for: larger, professional communities with courses and events.

Circle is a community platform with spaces, events, courses and paid memberships.

  • Strengths: flexible and polished, with your own branding.
  • Watch out for: plans are priced in dollars and members pay by card. Check Circle's pricing and payment options for Ghana on their site.

5. Telegram subscription bots

Best for: Telegram channels selling to an international audience.

Several bots sell access to private Telegram channels and remove people who stop paying.

  • Strengths: they can add and remove members automatically.
  • Watch out for: most take card, PayPal or crypto, not MoMo. Check each bot's fees and payment methods, and how long it has been around, before you trust it with your members.

6. Collecting MoMo by hand

Best for: testing your idea with your first few members.

  • Costs: only MoMo charges.
  • Watch out for: at 50 members you're tracking renewals in a notebook, checking screenshots daily and chasing people one by one. Most members who drop out simply forgot, and nobody reminded them.

Example: 120 members at GH₵ 150 a month

  • Paylead (Pro): GH₵ 149 + 120 × GH₵ 7 = GH₵ 989 a month. Members pay by MoMo and reminders go out automatically.
  • Skool Hobby: $9 + 120 × GH₵ 15 = $9 plus GH₵ 1,800, before card processing, and members move to a new app.
  • Patreon: 120 × GH₵ 15 = GH₵ 1,800, plus processing and payout fees.

Based on each platform's published fees on 12 October 2026.
