To take cake and pastry orders online in Ghana, put your regular menu in an online store with sizes and flavours, and use a payment link for deposits on custom cakes. On Paylead, customers pay by MoMo or card, every order lands in one list with the phone number and address, and the Starter plan is free.
Two kinds of orders, two setups
- Your regular menu (cupcake boxes, meat pies, small chops, standard birthday cakes): physical products customers order and pay for themselves.
- Custom cakes (weddings, themed birthdays): agree the design on WhatsApp, then send a payment link for the deposit.
Step by step: your menu
- Create your free Paylead account and set up your store.
- For each item, click Create product → Physical Product: add a physical product.
- Use good photos: the real cake, in daylight.
- Under Options, add sizes (6", 8", 10") and flavours, each with its own price.
- Turn on Limit how many you can sell for items you only make a few of each day.
- Set your delivery fee for the whole store in Store Settings → Payments. In the description, say how much notice you need and which areas you deliver to.
- Share your store link in your WhatsApp status and bio: share your store link.
Step by step: custom cakes
- Agree the design, size and date with the customer.
- Create a payment link titled with their order, for example "Ama's wedding cake: 50% deposit", with a fixed amount.
- Send it. Once they pay, the order shows in your sales with their details. Start baking only after you see it paid.
- Send a second link for the balance before delivery, or use an invoice that they can pay in parts.
What it costs
Online payments cost 4% + GH₵ 1. On a GH₵ 400 cake that is GH₵ 17, so GH₵ 383 reaches your wallet. If you allow pay on delivery for small orders, those cost 2% + GH₵ 1. Withdrawals cost a flat GH₵ 5 and arrive the next working day.
Tips from bakers
- Never bake a custom cake without a deposit. Say so on your menu.
- Add-ons sell well: candles, a message topper or a drink as an order bump.
- Festive seasons: a discount code for early Christmas or Valentine's orders helps you plan.
- Repeat customers: message past buyers about new flavours with SMS campaigns.
