How to stop fake MoMo payment screenshots when you sell online

The only sure way to stop fake MoMo screenshots is to stop accepting screenshots as proof. With a Paylead checkout or payment link, the buyer pays MoMo or card on the payment page, and the order is marked Paid only after the network confirms it. You deliver when you see Paid, not when you see a picture.

Why screenshots fail

A screenshot is a picture, and pictures are easy to edit or reuse. A buyer can send last month's receipt, someone else's receipt, or a "pending" payment that later fails. If you check your MoMo wallet by hand for every order, you lose time, and one busy evening is all it takes to send out an order that was never paid.

Step by step

  1. Create your free Paylead account and set up your store.
  2. Add what you sell:
  3. Send buyers your store link or payment link instead of your MoMo number. Put it in your WhatsApp status, bio and DMs: share your store link.
  4. The buyer pays with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money or a card. They approve the payment on their own phone.
  5. Paylead marks the order Paid once the payment is confirmed. You get a new-order alert (choose email, SMS or in-app) and the buyer gets a receipt.
  6. Open Sales, check the order says Paid, then deliver.

Digital products deliver themselves: the download link only reaches the buyer after the payment goes through.

What it costs

There is no monthly fee on the free Starter plan. Each online sale costs 4% + GH₵ 1, which includes payment processing. On a GH₵ 200 order that is GH₵ 9, so GH₵ 191 lands in your Paylead wallet. Turn on Customer pays transaction charges and the buyer covers the fee instead.

Withdrawals to mobile money or a bank account cost a flat GH₵ 5, from GH₵ 50, and arrive the next working day. See plans and fees.

Habits that keep you safe

  • Never deliver on a screenshot, even for a regular customer. Send the link and wait for Paid.
  • Tell buyers up front in your bio or catalogue: "Order and pay through the link. We don't accept screenshots."
  • For pay-on-delivery orders, call the buyer before you send the rider, and take a small deposit with a payment link on expensive items. See how to reduce failed deliveries.
  • Register a Sender ID so SMS receipts come from your business name: SMS receipts and Sender ID.

Frequently asked questions

Can a buyer fake a Paylead payment?

The order only turns Paid when the payment is confirmed, so a picture of a payment changes nothing. If the payment fails or is cancelled, the order stays unpaid and nothing is delivered.

Do I still need to check my MoMo wallet?

No. Payments go into your Paylead wallet and show on each order. You withdraw to your MoMo or bank account when you want.

What if my customer prefers to send money to my number?

Send them the payment link anyway: it takes the same MoMo payment from their phone, and it gives both of you a receipt. Most buyers prefer it once they see the order confirmed instantly.

Does this work if I only sell on WhatsApp or Instagram?

Yes. You don't need a website. Your Paylead store link and payment links work in any chat, status or bio.
