Customers in Ghana pay before delivery when paying takes one tap and they trust they will get the item. Give them a checkout link that takes MoMo or card, show proof you deliver, and take a deposit on big orders. Paylead gives you the link, the receipt and the tracking page for free.
Why buyers resist paying first
Most buyers have been burnt before: an item that never came, or one that looked nothing like the photo. And paying by sending money to a stranger's number feels risky. Remove both worries and most buyers will pay first.
Step by step
- Give every product a link. Put your items in a Paylead store so each has photos, a price and a Buy button: add a physical product. Buyers order and pay in one go, with MoMo or card.
- Make paying feel official. Buyers pay on a checkout page with your store's name, get a receipt by email and SMS, and can see their order afterwards. Register a Sender ID so texts come from your business name.
- Show you deliver. Mark orders shipped and share the tracking page so buyers can follow the delivery. Turn on star ratings and text reviews on your products so new buyers see what others said.
- Decide when to allow pay on delivery. Pay on delivery is a store setting: offer pay on delivery. If you turn it on, buyers choose between Pay now and Pay on delivery at checkout. Leave it off if you want every order paid first.
- Take a deposit on expensive or custom orders. Send a payment link for part of the price, for example GH₵ 100 on a GH₵ 600 order, and collect the rest on delivery or with a second link.
- Give a reason to pay now. A small discount code for prepaid orders works well: create discount codes.
What it costs
Online payments cost 4% + GH₵ 1 per sale. On a GH₵ 300 order that is GH₵ 13, so GH₵ 287 reaches your wallet, or the buyer covers the fee if you turn on Customer pays transaction charges. Pay-on-delivery orders cost 2% + GH₵ 1, because you collect the cash yourself. The Starter plan is free.
Frequently asked questions
Should I stop offering pay on delivery?
Not always. Many buyers will only order with pay on delivery, and turning it off can cost you those sales. A middle path: pay on delivery for cheaper items, a deposit link for expensive ones, and a small discount for paying now.
What is a fair deposit?
Enough to cover your cost if the buyer disappears: delivery and any money spent preparing the order. Say the amount clearly before you send the link.
Can buyers pay part now and part later?
Yes. Send a payment link for the deposit and a second link for the balance. For bigger jobs, an invoice lets clients pay in full or in parts.
How do I prove to buyers that I'm real?
Use one store link everywhere, keep your product photos and prices there, deliver on time and ask happy buyers to leave a review. Receipts and tracking pages from Paylead also show buyers they are dealing with a business.
