Best payment on delivery apps and software in Ghana (2026)

The best payment on delivery app for a Ghanaian seller is one that takes the order, gives you a waybill and tracking page, lets you mark cash as collected, and keeps your fees low. Paylead does all of that with pay on delivery at 2% + GH₵ 1. Other routes, such as Jiji, Instagram DMs with a spreadsheet, or a Shopify-style store, work but leave gaps. This guide shows what to compare.

Fees and features below are as of October 2026 for Paylead, which we checked in our own product. For other tools we have not listed prices: check each site for current pricing.

What should a payment on delivery solution do?

Cash on delivery looks simple, but sellers lose money in the gaps. Good software covers these:

  1. Take the order properly. Name, phone, address and a landmark, so the rider is not guessing.
  2. Show the full price. Item plus delivery, so there are no surprises at the door.
  3. Confirm the order. A message to the buyer with the amount to pay.
  4. Print a waybill and give the rider something to carry.
  5. Track delivery, so buyers know when to be home.
  6. Record the cash and keep your sales numbers right.
  7. Let buyers pay online instead, because prepaid orders never get refused.

The main options for sellers in Ghana

Option Good for Gaps
Paylead Sellers who want checkout, pay on delivery, waybills, tracking and MoMo or card in one account Ghana-first; pay on delivery for physical products only
Jiji and classifieds Finding buyers who browse listings You handle orders, cash and delivery yourself; check their site for fees
WhatsApp or Instagram plus a spreadsheet Very small volumes No tracking, no receipts, easy to lose orders
International store builders (for example Shopify) Sellers with card-paying buyers abroad Mobile money and local pay on delivery usually need extra setup or apps; check their site for current pricing
Courier or delivery apps Moving the parcel They do not take the order or run your store

If you only need a delivery rider, a courier app is enough. If you need a store that takes the order and manages cash, you want software that does both.

How Paylead handles pay on delivery

Verified in our own product:

  • Turn on Enable Cash on Delivery (COD) in Store Settings → Payments. Buyers of physical products then choose Pay now or Pay on delivery.
  • Each order shows the address, phone number and the amount to collect.
  • You print a waybill, mark the order shipped, and the buyer gets a tracking page.
  • The confirmation goes by email, and by SMS when the buyer leaves a number.
  • Buyers who are not home can pick another delivery day from their order page.
  • If a buyer accepts an upsell after ordering, it is added to the same delivery.
  • Pay on delivery costs 2% + GH₵ 1, taken from your wallet once you mark the order paid. Online payments cost 4% + GH₵ 1.
  • The Starter plan is free. Pro is GH₵ 149 a month and Business GH₵ 399.

Limits: pay on delivery is for physical products only, there is no built-in deposit (use a payment link), and the delivery fee is one price for the whole store with an optional free-delivery amount.

See the pay on delivery feature page and the help article.

How much does it cost on a real order?

Say you sell a GH₵ 350 pair of sneakers:

Fee You receive
Paid on delivery on Paylead GH₵ 8 GH₵ 342
Paid online on Paylead GH₵ 15 GH₵ 335

The online fee is higher because it includes payment processing. The pay-on-delivery fee looks cheaper, but remember the hidden cost: a refused delivery costs you a rider trip, often GH₵ 40 to GH₵ 80 within Accra. That is why prepaid orders are worth encouraging.

How to choose

Ask yourself:

  • Do I sell only physical goods, or also digital products and bookings?
  • Do I need tracking and waybills, or only a way to list items?
  • Will buyers want to pay by MoMo if I give them the option?
  • Can I see my sales and cash in one place?
